In a statement issued, the state chief minister on Thursday said that the rain-induced disasters in Uttarakhand occurring one after another for the past two months are the result of global warming.

Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, attributing the series of disasters that paralysed Uttarakhand to global warming, assured that expert agencies would be employed by the state government to examine the disaster-affected regions in the coming days.

In a statement issued, the state chief minister on Thursday said that the rain-induced disasters in Uttarakhand occurring one after another for the past two months are the result of global warming. “Disasters in Uttarakhand are the result of global warming. We are affected by global warming like other parts of the world. Areas affected by rain disaster occurrences in Uttarakhand did not witness unplanned developmental activities or habitats. Cloudbursts and landslides took place in spite of this,” he added.

Dhami said his government would conduct a study on the sudden increase in rain disasters, mainly cloudbursts, flash floods and landslides in order to understand the truth behind this. “We will assess the situation with the support of the expert agencies and other institutions that work in this field. The state government will conduct a survey and get examined disaster affected areas with the help of specialists and organisations known for their expertise” said Dhami.

The chief minister further said that his government would try working over to find means to preempt the disasters in future “We cannot stop disaster but will try to hammer out measures to predict the tragedy and resort to mitigate its impact in future” added the chief minister.

It’s noteworthy that more than 215 people have either died or gone missing due to natural disasters in the himalayan state in more than five months. Officials have admitted that those missing have the least chance of survival. Most of the deaths have occured due to rain flicted tragedies mainly cloudbursts, landslides, road ruptures and flash flood in the last two and half months.
